I am so sad I haven't been on in awhile........
lots has happened:
Scott and I made an offer on a house (and didn't get it)
then we made an offer on another house (they accepted it)
then we went on our honeymoon. We drove to New Orleans and my car broke down in boofoo Missouri. We had to have it towed 80 miles to Memphis TN (thank GOD for towing insurance!) and after two days continued on our trip. New Orleans was awesome. Stayed there for 3 days. Then we went to Biloxi MS for a night. Biloxi was still VERY ravaged from hurricane Katrina. Honey and I were amazed at how bad it was still.
When we got home we closed on our house and are moving in tomorrow!
I can't wait!
The Northern Illinois 17 year ciadas (brood XIII) are beginning their emergence!
They are expected to fully emerge by Monday night to Tuesday morning! We went hous hunting today and already saw a few of them!
I am so excited for my hubby to experience them! I experienced them when I was ten years old and it is CRAZY! 1 to 1.5 MILLION will emerge per square acre (a typical city block is approx 3 to 3 1/2 acres!!!!) approx 311 will emerge per square yard of lawn space! So yeah, tons of the little noisy guys!!!!
Last time dead ones were so deep in our back yard that they started rotting and stunk. My dad had to vacuum them up with an indoor/outdoor vacuum!
One male cicada's mating song is compared to the sound of a blender. So imagine over a million cicadas singing at once! I remember it from when I was young and it is truly amazing.
WOW! I CAN'T WAIT!
My cat Fizz totally loved Maia. He has never been around a baby before, so I wasn't sure how he would react. He has been around dogs and other cats, and usually he is very confrontational at first (low growling, occasionally a hiss, and he will walk up towards the offending animal and try to make it back down)
anyway, I wasn't sure if he would know a baby was a human, or if he would think it was another type of animal. He totally knew a baby was something he could get along with and not another animal that was invading his territory. He stared at her for about a minute, then rubbed his face on the side of her carseat/carrier thingy. (which if you own a cat you know that means he was "scenting" her as his property! ha ha
Then when Noelle went to change her diaper she left her on the changing pad and he sat on the floor next to her and was just hanging out. It was cute. He didn't even care if she was crying. He just hung out with us like a member of the family. Awww!
My friend came over tonight w/ her daughter Maia. Maia is almost three months old and a total sweetie. She rarely cries, and smiles all the time and makes the cutest little cooing noises. Anyway her mom and I think it is hysterical but she is totally enthralled with watching TV. I think it is the lights and movement and sounds, but she will totally stare at it for minutes at a time as if in a trance. Sometimes she will "talk" back to it.
Tonight we were watching Grey's Anatomy and every time Dr. Burk would come on she would make a little noise. It was sooooo funny.
I told my friend that Maia's first word was going to be "Tivo" shortly followed by "Tivo it Mommy!"
